ilumi CTO, Swapnil Bora, spoke at the 2016 Bluetooth World event at Levi's ® Stadium in the heart of the Silicon Valley on March 15-16th. At Bluetooth World, many speakers from tech companies talked about the latest Bluetooth trends and tech that will shape the future of the Internet of Things.
Here are some highlights from the presentation:
What makes ilumi the World’s Smartest Light? Inside every ilumi Smartbulb is ilumi's Smart Mesh, an advanced Bluetooth technology, which enables each Smartbulb to have a robust range up to 50 meters and supports 1-50 Smartbulbs through broadcast and connection based mesh to not only send simple on/off commands, but send large schedules and programs including network-based firmware updates.
Because we used such a simple and sophisticated wireless technology, ilumi was able to truly focus on creating a unique experience for the consumer.
What Bluetooth Brings to Your Product: ilumi was able to join the IoT revolution and boldly ask the general consumer to completely change their perspective on lighting. It is a major paradigm shift, expecting your customer to completely ignore the light switch and turn their lights on and off from their phone. We’re at a stage in technology where people are receptive to new concepts, and the challenge comes when a user is expected to change a behavior that has been around for over 100 years. Bluetooth has allowed ilumi to be bold, change perspectives and reinvent the light bulb.
The Future of Smart Mesh Technology: ilumi was the first BLE 4.0 Smartbulb on the market, and even created the very first Smartbulb prototype - we hold six patents for Bluetooth Mesh technology and LED lighting technology with several patents pending. ilumi chose Bluetooth for simplicity and ease of use for the end user and infinite integration possibilities.
We're now garnering interest for our proprietary and reliable Bluetooth Mesh Network, offering a robust high range and low range modules with both a broadcast based and connection based mesh, and third party companies will soon be able to include our mesh modules in their own products.
